Every woman who loves fashion has dreamed of one day having her own collection, and for Tanesha Awasthi that dream came true yesterday. Awasthi is the founder of plus-size style and beauty blog Girl with Curves, and seven years after launching her award-winning site, the multi-racial style icon has collaborated with Lane Bryant (LB) to launch her own Girl with Curves line with the full-figured retailer.

The 20-piece collection officially became available yesterday, but all weekend fans and followers were able to shop the line at a special pop-up event in New York City. Members of the Lane Bryant team were on site to assist shoppers as they tried on their favorite picks from the collection and got advice on sizing, while Awasthi mixed and mingled with guests and explained her vision for the launch.

“It’s surreal today that it’s out,” said Awasthi who is the first blogger LB collaborated with on a collection. She and their design team worked on the line for about eight months before it hit stores yesterday and, according to Awasthi, the process was a breeze. “Everyone on the team really gets that women of all sizes want amazing clothes, so we did classic Lane Bryant mixed with my sophisticated aesthetic. Everything’s a little modest — I love a midi-length, I love a long sleeve — and everyone’s reacting to it really well.”

Really well is an understatement. By noon yesterday, some of the denim jeans in the collection had already sold out. Thankfully though, there are a ton of more fashionably versatile pieces up for grabs, including Awasthi’s favorite item in the collection, the mixed print dress she wore to the pop-up event Sunday which was inspired by a Valentino dress she saw on the runway a few seasons ago.

“I always cut out little clippings and I’m huge on Pinterest so I always said, ‘I will do a version of this dress one day’ and when I took it to the team they said, ‘We have to.'”

Aware that some full-figured women are still hesitant to experiment with bold patterns, Awasthi encouraged those shopping her collection to believe they can rock any style they desire. “I always want everyone to feel beautiful in everything they wear. Looking amazing, I think that’s a big priority for us because how you look is so connected to your confidence. But for me, it’s more about how you feel. That’s why I always say don’t worry about wearing prints, or certain colors of lengths, it’ll be amazing. Just trust.”
