(Wall Street Journal) — U.S. manufacturers increased their output in July as the auto sector continued to recover, pushing overall industrial production up 1%, but housing starts extended their weakness following the spring expiration of a government tax credit. Single-family housing starts fell to the lowest rate since May 2009, while overall starts, driven by multifamily construction, increased only slightly after sharp declines since April.
