Cardi B. made her first red carpet debut since giving birth to her daughter, Kulture, at the 2018 MTV VMA’s. The Bronx beauty stepped out with a sophisticated look. Her makeup artist, Erika La Pearl revealed, “Cardi’s a mom now, with a new perspective on life. I was inspired to create a more sophisticated look on her.” We loved the look, so we’re here to give you all the details on how to achieve it, no matter your price point.

Start with a great primer so your makeup can be applied smoothly. My all-time favorite is Smashbox Photo Finish ($36.00, Sephora.com). The primer is clear so you don’t have to worry about an ashy finish and it sinks into your face perfectly, giving you a smooth finish. You can get a mini version for $15.00. Her full coverage foundation went on smooth and easy. Cover FX Natural Finish Foundation ($42.00, Sephora.com) is buildable and photographs nicely. The foundation comes in 40 shades, so there is definitely one for you. You can also go for NYX Total Control Drop Foundation ($13.99, Ulta.com). The only downside to NYX Total Control Drop Foundation is that it transfers easily.

With full coverage foundation, I find instead of adding a powder on top of it, use a translucent powder. It gives a more natural look but still sets your makeup. My forever favorite is Laura Mercier Translucent Powder in Medium Deep ($38.00, Macys.com). You can also try Maybelline Fit Me Loose Finishing Powder ($5.94, Walmart.com). With the Maybelline, apply lightly with a brush as it can cake up a bit if you are too heavy handed.

I loved Cardi’s eye makeup for this look. She went for a cat eye and it was accentuated with Kiss Lash Couture’s Triple Push Up lashes in Teddy ($8.72, Walmart.com). This is the same lashes she wore to the 2018 Met Gala in May. She rocked a gold smokey eye. Get a pigmented, gold eyeshadow with Tom Ford Shadow Extreme in Bright Gold Foil ($36.00, Bloomingdales.com). You can get a similar look using NYX Prismatic Eyeshadow Prismatic Eyeshadow ($5.99, Ulta.com). To keep the eyeshadow pigmented and strong, pack it on vs. spreading it on.

Finally, her light mauve lip really set off this sophisticated look. Replicate this color using NARS Audacious Lipstick in Anna ($34.00, Nars.com). I love the sheerness of Cardi’s lip and how she strayed from the matte look that everyone is rocking at the moment. For under $5.00, you can get L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Lip Color in Saucy Mauve ($4.49, Target.com).
