Russell Simmons Sues One Of Rape Accusers For $35,000
Russell Simmons is taking legal action against of the women who accused him of rape. According to E! News, the music mogul is suing a woman, whose name was not revealed, for $35,000.
Even though the $10 million lawsuit the woman filed was thrown out due to the statute of limitations, Simmons is proceeding with the lawsuit due “for purposes of publicity, which this case has garnered.” Legal documents state that Simmons said the woman’s claims were “baseless and was filled for an improper purpose.”
The woman claimed that she met Simmons at a concert that she attended with her son. She said he invited them backstage, and invited her to a hotel bar after she was to drop off her son. She said he then wanted to gets something out of his hotel room, and she went with him. Once they got to his room, she alleged that Simmons raped her. Simmons completed denied the allegations.
Simmons is also asking that the judge file sanctions against the woman’s lawyer, Mr. Mastroianni, for saying that Simmons was more “culpable” in this case because he was represented by the same law firm as Bill Cosby and Harvey Weinstein.
