Be Careful, Ladies: Uber Driver Convicted Of Raping Unconscious Passenger
An Uber driver has been found guilty of raping an unconscious woman at a hotel, NBC Washington News 4 reports. The woman, whose name was not revealed, was intoxicated and her friends called her an Uber to take her home to Fairfax, VA from Washington, DC. The driver, Westagne Pierre, drove her to Fairfax, ended the fare and then drove her to College Park, MD. He then went to a Budget Inn, checked in and proceeded to rape her. Pierre was caught on surveillance video carrying her limp body into the hotel.
“This horrified all of us because so many rely on Uber to be transported around,” Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks said at a news conference Friday (August 10).
Afterwards, Pierre drive to a nearby 7-Eleven and used the victim’s credit card to buy $14 worth of snacks. He then returned to the room and then left the victim there. Once she woke up, she called the police and reported the incident to Uber. Pierre was removed as a driver from the app.
“This was a deplorable crime that nobody should ever have to go through,” Uber said in a statement to News4. “Our thoughts continue to be with the rider.”
Pierre now faces up to 20 years in prison. He will be sentenced in October.
