(Crain’s) — When Jeremy Merrin founded his Cuban-themed restaurant business eight years ago, it was with visions of authentic food, live music and 1950s decor.
What Mr. Merrin’s vision did not include was exasperating fines from the city, like the recent one after an inspector decided the gap under a basement office’s door was too large. Mr. Merrin says the inspector wasn’t sure if the door met the rules or not—but decided to cite him for a violation, anyway.
