Idris Elba As James Bond Is A Thing Again & The Internet Is Shooketh

A report by the UK’s British Star has the internet in anticipation on whether or not our fave chocolate bearded bae will take the lead in the James Bond franchise. This isn’t the first time Idris Elba, a UK born actor, has been rumored to be in the running.

In a report by the publication, blockbuster director Antoine Fuqua went in-depth about a chat he had with Bond producer Barbara Broccoli, where he mentioned Elba’s name. Fuqua said he made Broccoli aware that it’s time for a new direction in the franchise, one in which an actor of color plays the coveted lead role.

“Idris could do it if he was in shape,” he added. “You need a guy with physically strong presence. Idris has that.” Rumblings naming actor Tom Hardy have also made the rounds as a possible contender.

This would be monumental for the decades old franchise who has seen iconic actors such as Sean O’Connery, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig, at the helm. Broccoli, Fuqua said, is in favor that a new direction will “eventually happen.” Craig, who stepped into the role in 2005, is currently filming the next film in the series.

The internet of course could not deal with the mention of Elba’s name.

While the news of Elba taking the role has not been confirmed, a report by CNN refutes the comments made by Fuqua. A spokesperson for Fuqua told CNN, “This is not accurate.”

In the past, Elba, 45, hasn’t shied away from the role, but maybe he’s waiting to confirm the news until the deal is actually sealed instead of hearsay.

In a 2014 interview with CNN, Elba said he would definitely be open to it. “It would be such an honor,” he said. “I mean what do we have to do here? We have to wear beautiful suits, drive nice cars, chase bad guys and date beautiful women? I dunno, sounds good to me.”
