(Chicago Sun Times) — A Near South Side aldermen who’s mulling a race for mayor demanded Wednesday that Mayor Daley hire 1,000 more police officers to solve a severe manpower shortage that has left Chicago Police officers outnumbered and residents feeling unsafe.
Ald. Robert Fioretti (2nd) acknowledged that the mass hiring would add $70 million to the city’s record $654.7 million budget shortfall for 2011.
