“I Don’t Know What To Do”: Tristan Finds Out About Stalking Allegations Against Mia In MAFS Preview
Next week’s episode of Married at First Sight is going to be a doozy, at least for Tristan and Mia.
If you tuned into episode 3, where the couples prepare to go on their honeymoon, then you saw that before the couple could even board their flight, she was detained and arrested.
In a preview for next week’s episode, Tristan deals with the aftermath of that. Left in the dark about why his new wife was taken away, he has to return to their hotel until further notice.
“I told her at the altar, I got you. That hasn’t changed,” he said in the car. “It won’t change.”
But Tristan understandably has his reservations when he finds out, as we shared with you recently, that Mia was arrested for allegedly stalking her ex and “unauthorized use of an access card.”
Show producer Eric Detwiler says in a clip from next week’s episode that despite their best efforts with background checks, the warrant against her was ordered after their inquiry.
“I want to reconfirm with you that we ran every background check possible,” Eric said after meeting with Tristan to share the news. “It was a shock to all of us to know that Mia was detained and then arrested at the airport. We were able to track down the actual copy of the warrant that was used to arrest Mia. And we were also able to find out that that warrant was filed the day after our full background report came in. So it was completely off anyone’s radar. I think what’s important about what’s in here is that there are two sides to every story, we don’t know Mia’s story yet.”
After reading the report, Tristan admits it was “very troubling” and the situation is a “test of my faith.” But he wants to reserve full judgment until he has the chance to speak with her.
“I’m feeling a sense of disbelief as I’m reading this police report. Actually seeing the actual words ‘stalking,’ I just wasn’t believe this entire thing. It had to be a mix-up,'” he said in his confessional. “And now I’m reading it and seeing Mia’s entire name and ‘stalking,’ and it’s a bit overwhelming. I don’t know what to do. I just want to see my wife.”
In next week’s episode, you’ll get the chance to hear Mia’s side of the story, as well as their conversation about it and whether or not they are able to move forward.
For the record, in our recent interview with Pastor Cal, he backed up production’s statement that they do a thorough background check on possible participants, despite this situation with Mia and MAFS alum David Norton.
“We do psychological evaluations. They answer a 370-something questioned questionnaire, and then after that, we sit down with personal interviews and we do background checks, we do criminal background checks. We will look at their credit,” he said.
“We do some cursory health evaluations to make sure that they are okay, Pastor Cal added. “They have to sit with a psychologist and then we will sit down with them and we go through an intensive interviewing process. And then after all that, we look at people’s compatibilities.”
