Anger spirals: we’ve all fallen into them. Some of us are more prone to them than others, but even the most passive, gentle-natured, and patient individuals have had that little monster come out in them that told them everyone was out to get them, nobody could be trusted, and it was time to battle. Sometimes alcohol spurs these; sometimes we can work ourselves into them completely sober. When they occur, all reason goes out the window—reason that reminds you things like, “Hey, this person you’re going off on loves you. Think of all the nice things they’ve done for you. You know what their intentions are and that their intentions are good.” That part of our brain is out to lunch or taking a nap because we can’t access it, and all we can find is rage and paranoia. But, when that happens, we can do and say some destructive things. Here is how to recognize a rage spiral and how to stop it.

You’ll have some physical symptoms like your jar clenching, your muscles tightening, your forehead furrowing and tightening, and your blood pressure rising. If your body is clearly in fight mode, your mouth is about to be.
