Serena Williams Cried After Missing Daughter’s First Steps While Training For Wimbledon, But Twitter Came Through To Console Her

Since returning to tennis to reclaim her place at the top of the rankings following giving birth to daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian in September, Serena Williams has been honest about the struggle it’s been to balance work and motherhood. Though she does make the best effort she can, it’s hard.

“It’s definitely family before tennis for me,” she said to Harper’s Bazaar UK. “When I’m training, I have to be done at 1 p.m., because I’ve got to be with Olympia. I haven’t gone a day without seeing her.”

But the 36-year-old shared over the weekend that despite a strict schedule to be as present as possible for her daughter, she still managed to miss out on baby Alexis’s first steps while getting in some training for Wimbledon. She didn’t take it well:

Mommy guilt is real. And thankfully, a number of women, famous and everyday, stepped up to show the star some support and encouragement for feeling she missed out on a major milestone in her daughter’s life. The responses were pretty heartwarming. Here are a few of our favorites:
