If last year’s massively successful and impressively well-done biopic The New Edition Story still has you dancing around your living room as you watch it on repeat, you’re in luck because the bad boy of the group has his own movie—and we’re finally getting our first official look.

Shortly after BET aired the three-part miniseries biopic about the legendary R&B group New Edition, it was announced that a solo movie about the group’s bad boy Bobby Brown was in the works. As filming began at the start of 2018, fans began to anticipate what was to come. Now, after seeing on-set photos of the cast in costume, notably star Woody McClain, the official full-length trailer has finally arrived.

The Bobby Brown Story airs in September and if you remember anything about the life and shenanigans of the R&B star, you know that you’re in for a whole lot of drama. Shadow and Act has the full synopsis of the film and its impressive cast is filled with some of Black Hollywood’s best:

‘The Bobby Brown Story’ will pick up where the New Edition mini left off. It will chronicle the talented but troubled singer’s exit from the popular ’80s boy band through his solo success, his affair with Janet Jackson and tabloid-fodder marriage to pop icon Whitney Houston.  Spanning 30 years of Brown’s life, the new project follows his story from the hard streets of Roxbury, where he turned to a life of drug dealing before being given the chance to prove himself as a solo artist.

Co-starring alongside McClain is Luke Cage star, Gabrielle Dennis as Whitney HoustonMekhi Phifer as Bobby’s brother/manager Tommy, Lil Rel Howery as Brian Irvine, Bobby’s business manager, T.K. Carter as Bobby’s father, Laz Alonso as record exec Louis Silas Jr. and Lance Gross as Bobby’s childhood friend who was murdered. Returning to reprise their roles from The New Edition Story are Sandi McCree and Tyler Marcel Williams as Bobby’s mother and the younger version of Bobby. During filming, several actors who played NE members were seen on-set in costume, however in the trailer we only get a glimpse of one, Algee Smith as New Edition lead singer Ralph Tresvant.

The New Edition Story was so good that we can’t wait to see this one! You can check out the full trailer below.
