“And The Fight Begins”: NeNe Leakes Reveals Gregg Is Battling Cancer

June 14, 2018  |

After dealing with health issues that have recently caused him to be in the hospital, NeNe Leakes has revealed that husband Gregg has been diagnosed with cancer. She didn’t detail the specific kind, but in a post sharing the news on Instagram, the 50-year-old Real Housewives of Atlanta star and her 63-year-old husband made it clear they were prepared to fight it.

In the Instagram post, Gregg can be seen sitting back in a chair, arms crossed, at a MD Anderson Cancer Center location. He is sitting next to a computer screen with the word “Cancer” with a red line crossing it out. In the caption, NeNe wrote, “Our New Normal and the fight begins”:

This reveal follows the news NeNe shared that Gregg had been hospitalized for more than 15 days back in May. She was supposed to do some stand-up shows in New York around that time, but she let her fans know she couldn’t focus on trying to make people laugh while her husband was ill.

“First of all, I just want to say that I feel very blessed and extremely lucky to be able to do what I do. I’m so grateful that you guys purchased tickets to see me everywhere,” NeNe wrote in May on Instagram. “I have to cancel my Albany, New York show and my New York City Caroline’s show. Today marks the 15th day straight that Gregg has been in the hospital. I find it very difficult to stand on stage and laugh and have a good time and give you guys your money’s worth knowing that my husband is in the hospital not feeling well. He has said to me over and over again, ‘Go on, go out there, have a good time, do the show, I’m going to be fine.’ But I find it mentally very hard for me to do that.”

By the end of May, she shared the good news that he had come out of the hospital.

“After 16days my hubby, my rock, my best friend @greggleakes returns to the Leakes household!” she wrote on Instagram. “This has been really hard on us, our children, family and closet [sic] friends. He has a long road ahead but God is good and life is precious! WON’T HE DO IT? Come on somebodyyyyyy.”

Gregg also entered the hospital in November for what was reported as a “dangerously low” heart rate.

That situation was shared on RHOA, and at the time, NeNe was very scared about what was going on with his health.

“Oh my God, what if Gregg doesn’t come home?” she said. “What will they find? Is this something that Gregg’s not telling me? I can’t even imagine Gregg not walking on this earth. I can’t do this. Gregg has to get better.”
