Get The Look: Cynthia Erivo’s Dramatic Smokey Eye And Deep Berry Lip
For the 2018 Tony Awards, the stars were out on the red carpet giving us everything from summer magic to quiet and reserved. During awards season (or even just awards in general), it’s always a matter of who will come to slaaay with either their outfits or their makeup looks.
This year, past winner Cynthia Erivo donned a beautiful black-lace dress on the red carpet, coming through with a dramatic smokey eye and metallic maroon lipstick. I immediately was taken aback because it’s not often we see two statement-making aspects of your face on display at the same time. It made me want to dip my toe in the trend, especially since she didn’t do bright, floral colors, but instead gave us glammed-up goth. But I know y’all want to see it, so take a look:
Erivo proved that you don’t have to choose between a bold eye and a bold lip, you can do whatever you want! Makeup done by Joanna Simkin, Erivo literally looked radiant on the red carpet, giving me another case on wearing dark colors for the spring and summer. But if you’re looking on recreating her look, here’s how I think you can achieve the look:
While Cynthia is definitely rocking a smokey eye, it seems like her eyes are more of a frothy-blue versus a standard black or even grey. Start off with the $26 Natasha Denona eyeshadow primer so your makeup has something to stick to. I would definitely recommend this $239 Natasha Denona palette and take the blue shade at the bottom, starting in the middle of the eye and building it out with a grey on the outer corners. You can also go for this $49 palette by Urban Decay to achieve a similar selection of colors. If you have this palette too, take an angled brush and use that silver to line your bottom lash line! And don’t worry — if you need an inexpensive alternative, BH Cosmetics has this awesome palette that’s only $16!
To achieve Erivo’s metallic lip, first you’ll need the main attraction! There’s a BEAUTIFUL $16 plum metallic lipstick from Lime Crime, which matches the color and finish as Cynthia. You can also snag this $18 duo-set from Juvia’s Place, which has a matte and a metallic version, or even this $19 Kat von D version. Now, once you finish applying your lipstick, go in with a deep purple liner and trace it around the outer corners of your mouth and blending it out as you go. This $20 Make Up For Ever liner is a great one to start with (because it’s super creamy), or even this $11 Amethyst-inspired liner from NYX. Oh, and if you don’t have a purple liner hanging around, that’s totally fine. Go in with a nude or brown liner to ensure that nothing bleeds or trickles over throughout the night! Well, what are you waiting for? Go on and create your looks!
