Georgia Officer Fired After Intentionally Hitting Black Fleeing Suspect With Police Cruiser
After a body cam caught footage of a police officer ramming his police car into a fleeing suspect, the officer has been terminated.
ABC reports that Officer Taylor Saulters was chasing Timmy Patmon in his cruiser while his partner, Hunter Blackmon, pursued him on foot. After not being able to stop him by blocking his path with the cruiser, Saulters rammed into Patmon, leading to his body rolling on to the side of the hood of the cruiser and then dropping to the ground.
“After reviewing the officers’ body camera footage, and all the other facts and circumstances of this case, Chief Scott Freeman terminated the employment of Officer Taylor Saulters,” read a statement from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.
Saulters was immediately placed on administrative leave, but after an internal affairs investigation and independent investigations by the Georgia State Patrol and Georgia Bureau of Investigation he was terminated one day later.
Patmon, who was wanted on a felony probation warrant, was treated at the hospital for minor injuries and taken into custody.
