At 14, most teens are starting their high school years. Matthew McKenzie not only finished his high school career but his college years as well at that age. On the same day, this 14-year-old graduated from Chattahoochee Technical College and his home school high school program. Along with his high school diploma, he has an associates degree in interdisciplinary studies with a focus in science.

His parents had been homeschooling him since the second grade and by age 11 he was also attending college. His mother, Monique McCord, said to be so young, McKenzie adjusted to his unique situation quite well.

“I started off walking him to class and then the environment got a little more comfortable then he started walking himself, so he eased into the transition,”  McCord told FOX 5 Atlanta.

McKenzie has dreams of being a cosmetic chemist.

“I want to start my own line of chemical products, the beauty of things,” he said.

With one degree under his belt, McKenzie has plans to continue to further his education. In the fall he will be attending Kennesaw State University to study biochemistry. He also wants to attend Georgia State University to get his master’s and Ph.D in chemical engineering.
