chloe x halle announced as openers for otr II

If you’ve already snagged your tickets to Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s On The Run II tour, you’re in for a treat from the very beginning of the show. Soulful sister duo Chloe X Halle have just been announced as openers along with DJ Khaled for the tour which begins in Europe in Cardiff, Wales on June 6. The American leg kicks off on June 25 in Cleveland. You may be familiar with Chloe X Halle after the “Formation” singer signed the pair after seeing them perform a cover of her single “Pretty Hurts” on Youtube in 2013. Since then, the R&B duo has gone on to release several albums including their recent official debut album The Kids Are Alright. You can also spot them playing track star twins who are BFF’s with Yara Shahidi’s character “Zoey Johnson” on the Freeform sitcom “Grownish.”

Entertainment Tonight recently sat down with the siblings as they shared their excitement over opening for Queen Bey on the upcoming tour. The Bailey sisters dished about being protégés of Bey before performing to a sold-out crowd in New York City on Thursday. 19-year-old Chloe shared opening for the couple will give them a chance to get to know a different type of audience:

“We are just super-duper excited.”

“I cannot wait. One, [because] as a fan, you know Beyoncé and JAY-Z are gonna kill it like they always do. But also being able to perform in front of all their fans and being opened to a broader audience, it’s going to be really, really fun.”

Despite the superstardom that surrounds who some would say are the First Family of Rap and R&B, Chloe says being on tour with the Carters will more than likely be like one big family reunion:

“Beyoncé is such a gracious human being and it’s easy to be around her and talk to her because she’s so kind and humble.”

“All I know is it’s going to be incredibly epic. It’s like a big family reunion with Parkwood and Roc Nation.”

And while Jay and Bey are known for coming out of nowhere with epic music and performances, Halle did let fans in on a key detail of what to expect for the show:

“Yeah, they’re going to kill it. That’s the spoiler: they’re gonna kill it.”

Chloe also discussed that although Bey is an incredible mentor who offers them regular support, she does allow them the space to have their own identities as artists:

“What I really love about Beyoncé is she always encourages us to be ourselves, completely, a thousand percent whole heartedly, and she’s always there to give us tips and guide us along the way, and share her information because she’s been through this. She knows exactly what it’s like.”

“But I also love how she allows us to grow into our own and that’s really special and means a lot to us coming from her.”

Halle shared that opening up for OTR II is an incredible opportunity which allows young black women to feel seen:

“Being young black girls in this music industry, it’s an exciting and challenging thing, because as a youth you’re already underestimated.”

“People already don’t think you can do certain things. But it’s always fun for us to come together and to prove people wrong and to use whatever negativity is going on in the world and put it into our art, and our creativity, and make something beautiful out of it… We’re just grateful to be a part of this whole movement.”
