Y’all, I was trying to prepare for this three-day weekend when the news of Morgan Freeman’s sexual harassment allegations came across my desk. So again, another day is devoted to writing about the disgusting behavior of another beloved, Black man who has been out here abusing his power in his mistreatment of women.

In a new report, published by CNN, several women have come forward with allegations about the veteran actor. And if you think these allegations are decades old, you’d be wrong. A production assistant on Freeman’s film Going In Style, claims that Freeman harassed her as recently as 2015.

She alleged nearly every day, Freeman subjected her to unwanted touching and comments about her figure and clothing. In addition to the verbal abuse, Freeman would rest his hand on her lower back or rub her lower back,

In one incident, the assistant claimed that Freeman “kept trying to lift up my skirt and asking if I was wearing underwear.” He never succeeded in lifting her clothing but he repeatedly tried touch it and lift it. When she would move away, he’d try again. Eventually, Freeman’s co-star Alan Arkin told him to stop. That seemed to work. “Morgan got freaked out and didn’t know what to say.”

Another assistant made similar claims about his 2012 film Now You See Me.

But the aforementioned women are far from the only ones. The 80-year-old star has been accused by 16 people who all spoke to CNN as a part of their investigation. Eight of the people said they were the victims of Freeman’s harassment and the other eight witnessed the behavior.

Each of the people who witnessed or experienced the behavior said that they did not report Freeman’s behavior because they feared for their jobs. Instead, the women said that they came up with ways to combat the harassment.

In addition to the people who’ve worked with Freeman on set, there are also allegations from journalists who have experienced Freeman’s abuse firsthand.

A co-author of the CNN article, Chloe Melas shared her inappropriate encounter with Freeman during a press junket, also for Going In Style.

Melas was six months pregnant when she met Freeman. And in a room full of people, including his co-stars, the actor shook her hand without letting go, then while looking her up and down he said, in various ways, “I wish I was there.” Later, he said, “You are ripe.” Cameras recorded the interaction. He continued, “I wish I was there…Boy, do I wish I was there—but not for the rest.”

There are even reports that Freeman has made inappropriate comments about his business partner Lori McCreary. In front of an audience of 400 people, Freeman said, “She wants to be thought of as serious but you can’t get away from the short dresses.”

When he was questioned about the comments, he brushed them off, saying they were made in jest.

While McCreary did not visibly react in public, a former employee said that she was upset when she returned to the office.

“I tried to console her and she was clearly upset and I think she was surprised and found it hurtful and embarrassing,” said the former executive. “She was devastated.”

We’re sure that we’ll be hearing more about this story in the days to come. But so far, as a result of the allegations, plans for Freeman to prove the voice of the Vancouver transit system have been paused.

After the news hit, Freeman issued an apology for his behavior, which he did not deny.

“Anyone who knows me or has worked with me knows I am not someone who would intentionally offend or knowingly make anyone feel uneasy,” he declared. “I apologise to anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected – that was never my intent.”
