Shop, Sip, Workout And Commune With Women Of Color At ZEN DAY Wellness Conference
If you’ve ever participated in major wellness events, from fitness festivals to wellness retreats, you have probably noticed that women of color are not in great numbers at them. But the truth is, many of us would love the chance to go on getaways to focus on physical and mental health, and we could also use the opportunity to try out all sorts of fitness options, but these possibilities aren’t as accessible for us. Unfortunately, we’re often left out of conversations about wellness. But a new half-day community wellness conference taking place in Brooklyn this weekend is looking to change that.
On Saturday, May 19, the inaugural ZEN DAY will take place. Brought to you by sponsor Under Armour (who will be behind goody bags), TrapAerobics stars GrillzandGranola, wellness retail site I See You and the Weeksville Heritage Center (in one of the first free Black communities in the U.S.), the event aims to promote “movement, mindfulness & modern spirituality among Women of Color.” While ZEN DAY is looking to provide a space for women of color, all are welcome to enjoy everything that will be offered from 2-7 p.m. Organizers have a TrapAerobics session and yoga class planned, as well as opportunities to try acupuncture, massages, eyebrow threading, Zen talks, live readings, and a vast marketplace brought to you by women of color. And did we forget to add that you can sip on medicinal mocktail elixirs?
All those who take part, from attendees to those involved behind the scenes, are working together to help everyone on their wellness journey.
The big theme for the inaugural ZEN DAY is rituals. “Big changes start by taking small steps; everyone has to start somewhere,” event coordinators say about the reason behind the topic. Whether you’re new on your fitness and wellness journey or someone making major progress, the event will explore some rituals you can incorporate into your lifestyle in the hopes of doing good for your mind, body and spirit.
ZEN DAY will have everything you’ve been missing (including Reiki-infused lunch and unlimited snacks), to help you feel, of course, zen. MadameNoire will be present to enjoy all the pampering planned. If you’re interested in a tranquil experience in a space of women of color where you can feel “loved, seen, supported and motivated,” get your tickets and join us come Saturday at the Weeksville Heritage Center.
