“The Worst Is Yet To Come”: Meghan Markle & Other Stars Whose Family Members Caused Wedding Drama
Usher and Tameka Foster
Right before they were set to say “I do” in 2007, the singer’s rep put out a statement saying, “It was announced today that the wedding ceremony for Usher Raymond, IV and Tameka Foster was canceled. No additional information will be given regarding the circumstances of the cancellation, but we hope the privacy of this matter will be respected.”
Word on the street was that Usher’s mom, Jonetta Patton, who was never a big fan of Foster, ran a background check on her before the wedding and presented the information to her son. He didn’t like the information he was given, so he canceled the wedding. But after doing his own background check, he decided to marry Foster days later, going through with a wedding Patton didn’t attend. Usher, however, said to Oprah that he canceled the original wedding because he felt he wasn’t ready, but then changed his mind and married Foster because he wanted to do right by her. He went on to file for divorce in 2009.
