Things To Do At Night For Better Skin

At night, some very interesting things happen to your skin. It’s a time that, if treated correctly, can be the reason your skin looks so good that strangers stop you on the street to ask you what your secret is when you’re older. But, if handled without care, the night can be the cause of long-term damage that results in puffier eyes, deeper lines, saggier skin, and a whole mess of problems. You see, at night, your skin is very susceptible to…whatever you put it through. It will soak up beneficial products best if you use them, but it will also suck in bacteria if you expose it to it. Look: you’re just lying there for six to nine hours (the latter only if you’re very lucky) so you may as well make the most of it. When the sun goes down, you can begin repairing your epidermis. Here are things you should do at night for better skin.

Wash your face

Wash your face, then wash it again. Get a gentle cleanser with limited ingredients so you don’t overwhelm your face with the products to come. Remember that when you take off your eye makeup, some gunk can get on your face and go into the crevices. So wash twice.

Remove makeup

And do make sure to get all makeup off. Try makeup-removing wipes, and wipe until they come up totally white—with no more makeup on them. Even the tiniest bit of residual makeup on the skin can lead to breakouts.

Make some steam

Make some steam in the bathroom by taking a hot shower and closing the windows. Steam will open up your pores and let them better take in the products you’re going to use.


Apply aloe vera

Aloe vera is wonderfully soothing, and deeply hydrating. It’s especially important to use if you’ve been spending a lot of time in the sun.

Put on cold eye cream

Yes, do invest in a cold eye cream. Don’t just use your overall face moisturizer under your eyes. The skin under the eyes is very thin and fragile and suffers damage more quickly than the rest of your face.

Moisturize the face and neck

Don’t forget the neck! If you’ve ever noticed a woman with gorgeous skin on her face but saggy or wrinkly skin on her neck, she probably forgot to moisturize her neck throughout her life. Remember—your neck and face are exposed to the sun all day.

Change your pillowcases

Change your pillowcases as often as you’re willing to. You sweat, drool, and get product on those cases every night. That build up can find its way into your pores and cause breakouts.

Use a retinoid
