Jada Pinkett Smith And Gabrielle Union Had The Classiest 17-Year Feud You Never Knew About
While promoting her new Facebook Watch series Red Table Talk with mom Adrienne Banfield-Norris, Jada Pinkett Smith shared some information about what we could expect from upcoming episodes. And according to the 46-year-old star, in one Red Table Talk chat, she ends a feud that I’m sure many of us didn’t even know existed.
“I have a really emotional episode with Gabrielle Union,” Pinkett Smith said in an interview with Extra. “We haven’t really been on the best of terms for 17 years and we have a reconciliation on the table.”
The actress said that when they attempted to hash things out, they realized “We couldn’t even remember why” they had been at odds in the first place. And the only real connection we know of these two is that Union worked with Will Smith on Bad Boys II, which came out in 2003 — just 15 years ago. Whatever the reason, the situation was on her mind enough that Union’s name was the first one to come up when producers talked to her about an episode centered around friendships.
“It was so funny. When they were like, ‘we want to do a girlfriends show,’ I was like…well her name kept coming up,” she said of Union, 45. “It just couldn’t be anything else.”
The good news is, during the episode, they were able to put whatever differences they had behind them, and if you ask Pinkett Smith if all is back on good terms, the star says yes.
“Oh, definitely,” she said. “And we don’t even know how it started.”
Can we just take a second and applaud these women for having their issues, but choosing not to be messy about it? Not everybody is out here throwing around subliminal messages and talking crazy about one another in every interview. Two snaps for maturity!
And for the record, another interesting conversation about past differences you might want to tune into is the very first episode of Red Table Talk. It’s a Mother’s Day episode, and it involves a chat between Pinkett Smith and Will’s first wife, Sheree Zampino.
“Well here’s the thing, we get to the red table and you hear about the stuff that didn’t go so well [laughs],” she joked about their blended family experience. “And just that journey. We talk about our 23 years together in this thing called family.”
