Back in 2014, following the birth of her first child, son Future, Ciara was enjoying what should have been the happiest time of her life. She was a new mom, and was engaged to be married to rapper Future.
Then that all fell apart. When it did, the singer had to figure out life as a single mother, and when asked what she would want in a man the next time she put herself out there and wore her heart on her sleeve, Ciara was specific.
“I remember telling my friend the kind of guy I wanted: a God-fearing man with a very fun spirit who loves kids and would really, truly care for me,” she told Essence in 2016. “I was very specific because I do believe you can have it all.”
Years later, the 32-year-old certainly has it all now; her God-fearing man in Russell Wilson, and a pair of healthy, beautiful kids. That includes Sienna, who celebrated her first birthday last week. Ciara said she was initially nervous about having a daughter.
“I didn’t know what to expect and I’m such a tomboy that I was honestly kind of a little worried or curious about how I would do with a little girl,” she shared in a new interview with E!. But when she watches son Future, 3, and Sienna, 1, together, she’s reminded that she did just fine because “there’s just something sweet in the air. There’s something really sweet about how they are, they’re so delicate but she’s so tough at the same time. So that’s been really amazing to see and experience—it is a difference you know. It’s hard to describe, but you feel it. It’s been really fun.”
As far as what she wants for Mother’s Day, Ciara is just looking forward to spending time with her brood and doing whatever her very romantic husband has planned.
“All I really want to do is just wake up to the love,” she said. “Being surrounded by the love from him and Future and Sienna, that’s all I need.”
The mother and wife, who is back to work making music, admits that Russell, Future and Sienna have changed her life in ways she never thought possible and is incredibly grateful for.
As she put it, “it’s just really sweet to see him. Sometimes I just sit back and I smile, and he’s looking at me like, ‘What are you smiling for?’ ‘Oh, for so many reasons.'”
