Congratulations to the Manns! The husband-and-wife acting duo celebrated 30 years of marriage yesterday.
Over the years, we have seen them attached to the hip in almost every project. They are also joined in social media matrimony using the handle “davidandtamela,” where the proud hubby left a beautiful message on their joint account to his wife, writing that “30 years ago today you said yes and made me the happiest man on earth.”
Five years ago, Tamela told Us Weekly that the couple’s means were drastically different when they jumped the broom in 1988. They couldn’t afford the wedding of their dreams, and they even had to borrow a ring!
But as their respective acting and gospel careers took off (thanks to the support and exposure by media mogul Tyler Perry), they were able to throw a bash in Dallas, Texas that more closely reflected the love they developed for each other.
“We wanted a fairytale wedding, so we picked an enchanted forest theme,” Tamela said. “We hosted everyone at the Joule Hotel because it had the feel we were trying to create — old-world romantic, beautiful, chic and lush — and a place everyone would love. And it had space for a dance floor, which if you know David, was something we had to have!”
The couple has always exuded fun-loving attitudes toward each other, which for some married celebrities who work together, can be beyond challenging (see: Tamar and Vince). But when we caught up with these two at the genesis of their popular show Mann & Wife, they have a clear understanding that their marriage comes first no matter what.
“The way that we keep our personal and professional lives together is that we don’t mix the two. When we’re at work, we’re at work. When we’re at home, we’re at home,” David said. “And see, we never try to balance our marriage, our personal lives, our relationship, we never try to balance it with this entertainment business because we’re not going to give anything the same weight as our marriage or our relationship. None. Doesn’t compare.”
Can the church say amen?
May God continue to bless their union, and here’s to 30 more years of love and happiness to the pair. Be sure to look out for the fourth season of Mann & Wife on Bounce TV.
