Earlier today it was revealed that Derek Fisher proposed to former Basketball Wives star Gloria Govan, popping the question in an emotional way at their Los Angeles home in front of family. Of course, one of the first things many people thought about when the news broke was Govan’s ex-husband, Matt Barnes. If you’ll recall, when he found out about Fisher’s involvement with his estranged wife (Fisher and Govan have been involved since 2015, her divorce to Barnes was finalized in 2016), he drove 95 miles to fight his former Lakers teammate.

But despite that violent encounter and the drama that has been Govan and Barnes’s co-parenting relationship, he congratulated the couple on their engagement. In fact, he told everyone that he really only communicates with Fisher when it comes to his kids, so they’re actually quite friendly these days:

Good to know there’s no hard feelings or negativity about it. It’s refreshing.

But it’s not a first. A number of men who’ve dated famous women of color have wished them well in their new relationships and with new blessings. It’s a sweet thing to see (when it seems genuine). Check out a few men who wished their exes well with someone new.

Common

Even though things didn’t work out with he and Serena Williams, Common only had great things to say about her when TMZ asked him if he knew about her recent nuptials to Alexis Ohanian.

“Nah, I didn’t see it,” he said, “but God bless her. That’s the queen. She’s the queen. Congratulations to them!”

Ginuwine

When the singer’s ex-wife, Sole, went and remarried Professor Griff of Public Enemy fame, fans of Ginuwine questioned her decision and her loyalty. But thankfully, it was G who came to both Sole and Griff’s defense, wishing them well.

Lenny Kravitz

While it didn’t come out of Lenny’s mouth, daughter Zoe told Ocean Drive Magazine that her father and stepfather, Jason Momoa, have a great relationship, so much so that the rocker bonds with Momoa and ex-wife Lisa Bonet’s kids, too.

“My dad and my step-dad get along really well, and my dad loves and is close with my [step]brother and sister,” she said. “It’s really beautiful.”

Diddy

To this day, if you ask him, Diddy has nothing bad to say about Jennifer Lopez — or her suitors. When Extra asked him if he approved of her beau Alex Rodriguez, he said, “Oh yes, absolutely. He’s a great guy. That’s none of my business, I shouldn’t even be speaking on it. But when you have a chance, spread some love. He’s a great guy.”

Mickey “Memphitz” Wright

Things may not have ended well between Toya Wright and Memphitz, but he had a positive message for both Toya and her daughter Reginae after his ex-wife gave birth to daughter Reign this year.

Wiz Khalifa

Amber and 21 Savage didn’t make it in the long run, but in case anyone was wondering, they had ex-husband Wiz Khalifa’s support.

“He’s a good guy,” Wiz said about fellow rapper 21 and his relationship with son Sebastian. “He’s a good kid, everything I know about him.”

Nick Cannon

Another relationship that didn’t make it in the long run was Mariah Carey and James Packer’s engagement. And while people assumed Cannon was going to be pressed when the former pair announced their engagement, he actually laughed off such assumptions.

“#AllLove Congrats to @MariahCarey and James!” he wrote on social media. “May God Bless Your Future Union… #GreatPeople #GreatCouple.”

Chris Brown

Maybe Chris Brown is growing, y’all. After he saw pictures of ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran on vacation with new man Victor Cruz, the singer surprised everyone by saying the pair looked good together. And then he temporarily deactivated his Instagram account.
