Will Packer’s Ready To Love Dating Series Coming Soon To OWN And The Focus Is On Men This Time
The man behind film favorites like last year’s blockbuster comedy Girls Trip is hoping to bring his magic touch over to the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).
According to Deadline, OWN has greenlighted two series from the 44-year-old media mogul, one of which is called Ready to Love, an unscripted dating series with a twist – the show will provide a hyper-focus on the male perspective. Well this should be interesting!
The series will feature successful men and women of all shades looking for love. However, the Ride Along producer will give the male voice front-and-center attention, with the hope that women get a peek into what men really say about dating.
Although this sounds like a unique idea, when I really think about it, I’m not sure how this show will be different from all the other dating shows. I mean, what new revelations about courtship will the bachelors provide that haven’t already been exposed? Wasn’t that the point of all of the Think Like a Man installments that Packer himself produced?
If I were to guess, this shiny curveball in the world of unscripted dating shows is really trying to bring more male viewers to OWN. Right now, the network is extremely popular with women, young and older, with content like Queen Sugar, If Loving You Is Wrong, and Iyanla: Fix My Life. But for the men? I can’t think of one show that asks for their attention. Ready for Love could be it.
Although Packer does not address that this new show could get more male viewers to tun in, he acknowledges how successful the brand has been thus far, making him excited to contribute to it in this way.
“Partnering with OWN to bring Ambitions and Ready to Love to their fast-growing lineup of critically acclaimed series is a win-win scenario,” said Packer. “OWN has been on an incredible streak with its recent slate, and we’re looking forward to extending the network’s prime-time success with these new shows created specifically with the OWN audience in mind.”
Ready to Love begins production in Atlanta this spring, and it’s slated to join the Saturday night line-up later this year. It will be produced for OWN by Will Packer Media in association with Lionsgate/Debmar-Mercury. Packer will also serve as one of the executive producers.
Will you be checking for this series when it debuts some time later this year?
