Duane And Tisha Campbell-Martin Say Divorce Has Made Handling Their Finances Much More Difficult
You know what they say, money are one of the leading causes of divorce. But Tisha Campbell-Martin and Duane Martin are blaming their ongoing divorce proceedings on their current money issues.
According to The Blast, the Martins have been accused of hiding money after the two filed for bankruptcy. Their defense is that the divorce has resulted in a lot of miscommunication.
Documents obtained by The Blast show that Duane is pleading wth the court not to sanction him and his estranged wife after the trustee in their divorce claimed the two hid $50,000 in acting residuals.
The argument comes after the trustee was given a late payment of $125,000. There was a discrepancy about what the trustee was entitled to because the Martins were under the impression that they were buying back their rights.
In the documents, Duane says, when he delivered a check for Tisha’s residuals, he “had problems determining what amounts might be owed to the estate.” But he is taking full responsibility for the mistake. “Prior to our separation, I handled the family finances and business finances by myself. I recognized then that I was not capable of preparing an accounting by myself.”
Martin said that since they’ve separated they’ve had trouble getting on the same page. “We were having difficulty communicating with each other and agreeing about major and minor issues, including who to retain to prepare the accounting requested by the Trustee.”
Tisha agreed saying that she assumed Duane would handle the delivery of the residual check to the trustee. When she realized he might not have done so, she had her lawyers investigate.
Campbell-Martin says that since she and her husband have separated, she wants to take charge of her own finances and is hoping the court doesn’t punish her for Duane’s oversight.
