Dr. Simone Whitmore Says She Can’t Stay With Cecil “If I Can Not Feel Loved In The Home I Sleep In”
A number of couples were dealing with serious marital issues on this season of Married to Medicine, but the only couple who seemed sure that they are done is Simone Whitmore, M.D. and her husband, Cecil. She announced a few months ago that she actually filed for divorce back in October, but shared the news with her co-stars for the first time at the reunion. During part two of the reunion special, the 50-year-old explained the incident that ended up being the last straw for her.
“We had a blowup and the next morning he woke up and decided he didn’t need to talk to the counselor,” she said. “That I was being petty and I told him, ‘If you leave, if you walk out that door, I am done!’ He left! What the f–k did you think I was going to do?”
Simone went on to say that he went to see a female friend of his who is supposedly a “big time manipulator.” The fact that he left when she’d asked him not to was enough for her to feel as though he didn’t want to work for their marriage.
A majority of the cast sat quietly during Simone’s account of things — except Toya Bush-Harris. She told Simone that Cecil, 51, had clearly made a mistake and seemed to encourage her friend to really think about whether or not she wanted to be completely done with her marriage. Simone responded by saying, “if you tell me you would tolerate this sh-t from Eugene [Harris] then I’ll stay married and fight for my marriage. Nobody would!”
“Yes, I want a divorce!” she added, at a certain point yelling.”If I can not feel loved in the home I sleep in! And you’re criticizing me!”
Simone, however, could understand Toya’s intentions. After more than 20 years of marriage, one should be as sure as possible that they’ve come to the end of the road before pulling the plug on their relationship. But Simone was clear on that. Even after two kids and a lot of memories, she didn’t want to stay married without feeling the love was there.
“And let me tell y’all something. I know I yell and scream at you, and I appreciate the love in what you’re doing,” she said. “I do. But sometimes a relationship must and will come to a close. There are people who stay married for all sorts of reasons. I married for love and that is the only way I’m going to stay married.”
Back in January, Simone first shared that she filed in an interview with PEOPLE. At the time she said, “There is no if here, there are no games. I am not pretending. I am done. I have reached a place where I am in a marriage where I do not feel loved and no sacrifices are being made for me to make me feel loved. I must move on.”
She reiterated that point after part two of the reunion aired on Friday night:
