Matcha has taken over the herbal world, replacing green tea as the “it” ingredient, due to its potent antioxidant makeup; its ability to boost metabolism and calm the mind and body; its richness in vitamin C, selenium, chromium, zinc and magnesium; and its detoxifying properties. Given all the buzz around the grounded powder’s benefits to the body, Carol’s Daughter decided to explore whether the tea could have equally powerful benefits when infused into hair products; thus the brand’s newest line, Green Supreme, was born.

The trio of products — a shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in tonic, actually incorporates three all-star ingredients to keep hair strong and healthy:

  • Matcha, which, because of its antioxidant profile, helps to control split ends and stimulate the hair follicle for growth.
  • Coconut water which hydrates and is full of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin C, enzymes, amino acids and minerals like magnesium and potassium that also promote hair growth and protect against dryness and dandruff.
  • Moringa Oil, a phytonutrient-rich substance that comes from the seeds of the Moringa Oleifera tree that helps strengthen hair by delivering key minerals and vitamins to the hair follicle to rejuvenate from within.

Together, these products are like a green juice for your hair, providing nourishment and energy for it to flourish, and I have to say, so far, I’m very happy with my experience. But before getting into the product, let’s talk about the packaging.

Off the bat, I was impressed with the pump-style bottling of the shampoo and conditioner. I’m often multi-tasking in the shower and loved that I could use one hand to dispense the product needed, rather than struggling to squeeze a thick cream out of a tiny hole like with most shampoos and conditioners.

I was also happy with the consistency of both the shampoo and conditioner which work together to restore weak, undernourished hair. I wash my hair about once per week, but wet it every day to restore my curls and, as such, it dries out quickly if I don’t routinely condition and put moisturizing products in it. I liked that with just one wash the Green Supreme Sulfate-Free Shampoo cleared all of the gel edge control buildup I had around the perimeter of my hair but my strands were still soft and buoyant.

Similarly, the Green Supreme Vitalizing Conditioner quickly and easily penetrated my strands. I felt like my hair really sucked up the product as opposed to some conditioners that seem to just sit on top of the hair and not do much. There are no specific time recommendations for the conditioner so I kept it on about 2-3 minutes max as I finished my business in the shower and that felt sufficient to return my hair back to a soft, clean, manageable state.

My absolute favorite product in the line is the Green Supreme Leave-In Tonic. I am typically a cocktail person when it comes to styling products, meaning I always have to mix a cream/butter of some sort with a gel-based product to get the definition and hold I want. But what I liked about this leave-in was that it provided enough moisture on its own and because its a lightweight spray my curls were a bit wilder and softer when I let my hair air dry as opposed to being heavily defined and weighed down.

Last night I tried the line again and after I washed and conditioned my hair, I sprayed the tonic and tied my hair down with a silk scarf to let it dry overnight. This morning my hair was soft and easily malleable into a bun or style of my choosing and I didn’t feel like I needed to add any additional product for moisture or shine.

If you’re hair is already in decent to great shape, I’d say this line is good for daily maintenance. The tonic, especially, will help eliminate product buildup because it has such a lightweight, yet nourishing formula that could be sufficient for wash n’go girls who want light, airy curls. And it’s also a great base for moisturizing strands prior to styling with other twisting custards and cremes for more intricate, defined looks.
