BET Adds Lil Rel Howery, Mekhi Phifer, Laz Alonso And Others To The Cast Of The Bobby Brown Story
Well, this is pretty cool news! BET cast more actors to their slate for the highly-anticipated two-part mini-series The Bobby Brown Story.
We told you that BET was developing a story about the former bad boy of R&B, Bobby Brown, back in November. But only Woody McClain, the actor who portrayed him in BET’s The New Edition Story, was formally attached. What an excellent choice because McClain killed the role.
Now, more actors have been cast, and from the looks of the list reported on Deadline, they’ve secured some pretty talented people to play almost everyone that surrounded the “My Prerogative” singer…except one.
Mekhi Phifer will play Tommy, Bobby’s brother.
Lil Rel Howery will play Brian Irvine, Bobby’s business manager.
T.K. Carter will play Herbert “Pops” Brown, Bobby’s father.
Laz Alonso will play Louil Silas, Jr., an MCA producer-executive who helps Bobby become a solo star.
Lance Gross will play Steven Sealy, Bobby’s childhood friend who is killed in a gunfight after hanging with him at a hometown bar.
Alyssa Goss will play Bobby’s current wife, Alicia Etheridge. And Sandi McCree will reprise her role from The New Edition Story as Bobby’s mother.
You noticed what I noticed, right? Who will play Whitney? You can have no Bobby Brown Story without one of the greatest loves of his life.
In an earlier Deadline article, they made it clear that the mini-series would cover Bobby’s 15 year marriage to Whitney, so it just seems like that role hasn’t been cast yet.
I am looking forward to seeing this because BET did such an amazing job with The New Edition Story. Their casting in that bio-series was spot on, so whoever does get picked to play Whitney will have to bring it.
Who do you think would be a perfect fit to portray the late star who declared that Bobby was the “King of R&B?”
