While simple acts that show how much you love and care for your partner are always a beautiful thing, for some, a grand gesture is the best way to get that message across. And for someone as decorated and legendary as Serena Williams, you have to go big or go home.
That’s why her husband, Alexis Ohanian, the 33-year-old co-founder of Reddit, decided to go all out in an effort to help welcome the 36-year-old tennis ace back to the court. But he did it in a way that focused on how not only is she the greatest to do it on the court, but how she’s a pretty fantastic mother as well. Flip through the billboards for the sweet message from Alexis and his “Jr.,” Alexis Olympia:
The heartwarming message, displayed for the world to see — ok, really just everyone driving around Palm Springs — comes on the heels of the release of her new commercial with Lincoln. In it, she talks about the doubts she’s had about returning to the sport, but how baby Alexis reminds her that she can do just about anything:
Williams officially returned to tennis by participating in a doubles match with her sister Venus against the Netherlands at the Fed Cup. The pair lost the low-stakes match earlier this month. She also competed in and lost an exhibition match in Abu Dhabi in late December, just three months after giving birth. Despite all of that, she said after the Fed Cup match that her expectations for herself, as well as her hopes, were going to stay high into the next possible match.
“If I walk out there with low expectations, then I need to stop doing what I do,” she said. “So that’s never going to happen for me. I’m always going to have the best and highest expectations for myself. I’m O.K. with that, because that’s just who I am.”
Thankfully, she has Alexis and “Jr.” supporting her every step of the way.
