When you marry someone, you’re trusting that not only will they prioritize your wellbeing but that they will do their best to be honest about their past…especially a past that can affect your health.
Sadly, that wasn’t the case for Adrienne Vanterpool. This Manhattan woman is currently in the process of suing her estranged husband, Lionel Canton, for $4 million dollars. Vanterpool claims that Canton “fraudulently and maliciously” concealed his herpes diagnosis, revealing it after the couple had been married for four years.
Vanterpool, 62, who married Canton in 2010, was shocked by his admission and tested positive for the incurable STI two months later.
She is suing Canton, 63, for $1 million in damages and another $3 million as punishment for his deception. She filed for divorce in May 2016.
Vanterpool stated that her husband learned of his status in 2005.
Her complaint states, “The defendant’s actions as aforesaid were motivated by evil, reckless disregard, callous indifference and disregard of the plaintiff’s health and safety.”
As of last week, the couple’s legal split is still pending.
How much do you think Vanterpool deserves for her pain and suffering, (including the impact this diagnosis will have on her love life going forward), and medical bills?
I don’t know Canton’s financial situation but if he can swing $4 million, it doesn’t sound entirely unreasonable.
