Steve Harvey daughter

Steve Harvey doesn’t play when it comes to his daughters.

He made that clear when he revealed that he took some drastic measures to make sure that his youngest stepdaughter, Lori Harvey, wasn’t getting caught up with the wrong type of guy when she started dating Dutch professional soccer player Memphis Depay.

It was brought up when Harvey was speaking on his talk show with guests about family members having issues with a loved one’s partner. He discussed singer and actress Selena Gomez’s rekindled relationship with pop star Justin Bieber being met with disapproval by her mother. When asked if it scared him that his own daughter was dating a professional athlete (who don’t always have the best reputation), Harvey said that it initially did, but he did his own background check of sorts on Depay.

“It did in the beginning,” Harvey said, according to PEOPLE. “But then I had him followed.”

The studio audience might have laughed at the comment, but the comedian and talk show host was pretty serious.

“She didn’t know. She knows now,” he said. “But when she found out she was upset.”

For Harvey though, he didn’t understand the problem.

“What you trippin’ for? I’m trying to help you,” he said.  “You think he cute, I don’t. You find him attractive. The boy is just a boy to me.”

“If you’re not going to treat her the way I’ve treated her, and the way I’ve treated her mama, then you can’t have her,” he added. “And then I’m going to fix it.”

Thankfully though, Depay proved himself to be the right kind of guy for Lori. It was announced last summer that the 21-year-old beauty and her soccer star boyfriend had become engaged to be married. When Harvey shared the news, he stated that Depay is actually a great catch for his daughter.

“Marjorie and I are proud to announce the engagement of our youngest daughter Lori to Memphis Depay,” he shared on Twitter, saying, “this young man is a good one! Congrats!”

And in case you were wondering, Lori is head over heels in love.

“I’m 20 and my fiancé is 23 for everyone asking,” she shared on Twitter following the engagement announcement before saying, “yes we are young, but when it’s right why wait.”
