Michaela Coel Made Her “Black Panther” Premiere Dress In Less Than Two Hours
I’m the kind of person who needs to pick out my outfit for the next day the night before. I’m very self-aware that I’m no good in the morning. Decision-making and critical thinking skills aren’t in full effect for me until I’ve had at least one cup of coffee. Apparently, Michaela Coel doesn’t know my struggle. The “Chewing Gum” star recently made heads turn and blew minds when she revealed she made the stunning dress she rocked to Thursday night’s London screening of Marvel’s Black Panther less than two hours before the event.
Coel was completely snatched in a backless gown in a vibrant red and blue print with halter straps, accessorizing with a gold pendant necklace, a gold bangle on her upper arm, and black ankle boots. Many wondered what designer she had tapped to create the sexy but regal look, but Coel casually dropped on Twitter that she got her Project Runway on for the look less than two hours before she graced the red carpet. The dress, in fact, is a result of two skirts Coel literally cut up and sewed together:
Mama made it work, in fact that look did overtime. Tim Gunn would be proud.
This isn’t the first time fans have gotten a taste of Coel’s family’s talent at fashion design. She’s thanked her Mom, a full-time nurse, several times in the past for creating red carpet looks for her as a “hobby”:
I guess the next question is: Will we get a fashion line in the future so fans can look as incredible as Coel?
