According to The Brisbane Times, Jesse Ratu, a 24-year-old woman from Queensland, Australia, was sexually assaulted on Jan. 14. The 40-year-old man who assaulted her said, “Sorry, I just had to do it. You have the best arse.”
Ratu said that she was returning home after exercising in the morning when the man suddenly came up to her as she was entering her apartment building. Cairns Post reported that she said, “He looked like a construction worker (with his blue trousers). I thought maybe he was looking for a building. I was walking up to (the lobby) to buzz myself in and I could see his reflection in the glass. He walked really fast towards me and I got nervous.” Ratu said that the man groped her five times, one after the other. The mother of two ran quickly up the stairs and to her partner, Brendan Wilson.
In an interview with MamaMia, she sheds more light on the details of the story. She said that right after the man groped her, she immediately said to him, “Don’t f*cking touch me,” and that’s when the man responded disgustingly, “Sorry, I had to do that. You have the best arse.” When Ratu made it to her apartment and told her partner, Wilson searched for the man but after 20 minutes of being unsuccessful in doing so, they called the police.
“I was a bit nervous and very, very scared,” Jesse said about reporting the assault. Ratu requested the CCTV footage from the complex manager, and sure enough, the entire incident was captured.
The 40-year-old man actually turned himself in on Jan. 16, according to The Brisbane Times. He was charged with two counts of sexual assault. And apparently, this isn’t the first time this man has assaulted a woman. He touched another female jogger on the butt on Jan. 17 of last year. The man is due to appear in court on Feb. 6.
However, this incident has scarred Ratu. She said, “I have not been out on my street on my own yet. I don’t feel comfortable doing that just yet… I haven’t even checked my mail.” The CCTV footage of the incident is below:
