Ava DuVernay

These days we know Ava DuVernay as the tour de force behind “Middle of Nowhere” and “Selma” (and the forthcoming “A Wrinkle In Time”), but before she hit the scene as one of the most promising directors in Hollywood, she had a slightly different role. For 12 years, DuVernay worked as an entertainment publicist, even running her own firm. Some of the projects she worked on: “Dreamgirls,” “The Help” and “Invictus.” Not too shabby a pre-fame gig, we have to say.
