2 Dope Queens Special With Jessica Williams And Phoebe Robinson Coming To HBO In February
“HBO is proud to present the dopest queens to ever queen in the history of queening,” pipes the trailer for their new limited series, 2 Dope Queens.
Jessica Williams, former senior correspondent on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show and star of Netflix’s The Incredible Jessica James, and Phoebe Robinson, creator of the popular blog Blaria, are indeed 2 Dope Queens. They are co-hosting the HBO special, and as proclaimed BFFs, both ladies are all kinds of #BlackGirlMagic, and they are sprinkling as much of it as they can on the premium cable network in four episodes.
Williams, 28, and Robinson, 33, host a popular podcast of the same name, which, I presume, is why they caught the attention of HBO. And they will bring the same fire and similar topics of discussion to the TV format as they have done on the airwaves. Their season finale podcast episode aired on December 12, and the segment was titled “Labia Majora.” Yes, these ladies are HBO-ready. In other podcast episodes, the ladies discuss an array of things like romance, hair journeys, living in New York, and white lesbians. They even have one episode titled “Black Women Are for Grown-Ups,” which is a personal favorite. As stand-up comedians, they’re given the freedom to truly be themselves on a rather R-rated format like HBO.
2 Dope Queens, the HBO special, was taped in front of a live audience at Brooklyn’s King Theatre. Each one-hour episode will air on Fridays at 11:30 pm EST starting on February 2 and they will all be themed:
The premiere is called “New York,” with Jon Stewart (2/2/18)
The second episode is called “Hair,” with Sarah Jessica Parker (2/9/18)
The third episode is called “Hot Peen,” with Tituss Burgess (2/16/18)
The fourth is called “Black Nerds” (a.k.a. “Blerds”), with Uzo Aduba (2/23/18)
