Masculinity as we know it is not only socially and psychologically harmful, it can often be downright dangerous. I don’t know if you’ve noticed but often times it seems that the only emotion it’s ok for men to share and express is anger. And if anger is the only emotion in your arsenal, things are not going to end well.
While patriarchy seems to center and provide preferential treatment to men, it’s also done more than enough in terms of stifling their growth and development as well. And in order to begin shifting those dynamics, to allow men, particularly Black men wider access to their very real and very human range of emotions, a man who goes by Jermaine Design on Twitter created #BlackBoysEmbrace to combat transphobia, homophobia, & misogynoir and celebrate all forms of love between Black men.
