That Issa Rae reign over at HBO just won’t let up!
Back in October we told you that the 32-year-old was going to collaborate with The Turner House author Angela Flournoy on a drama about a family adjusting to the changing times in early ’90s L.A. Well, according to Deadline, HBO has approved two more series from the Insecure star and creator–a half-hour comedy and a one-hour drama–as part of her producing deal with the premium cable channel.
Him or Her, executive produced with Emmy winner and former Daily Show writer Travon Free, will be about the dating life of a bisexual Black man who finds himself in some very interesting relationships and situationships. Free is set to cover writing for that project.
And Sweet Life follows a group of affluent Black teens in Windsor Hills, which is known as the “Black Beverly Hills,” in a coming-of-age tale. California, for the record, is known for having the West Coast’s highest concentration of Black affluence with Windsor Hills, Baldwin Hills (remember that BET reality show?), View Park and Ladera Heights.
The series will be co-created by Rae and Raamla Mohamed, who is a producer for Scandal. Both Mohamed and Rae will write for the drama.
As for Insecure, Rae was just nominated for a Golden Globe for her work, nabbing a spot in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy category. The series, which we all can’t wait to see make its return, will be back for Season 3 in 2018.
