4-Year-Old Reads 100 Books In One Day On Facebook Live
Caleb Green, a 4-year-old boy from Chicago, IL, is a little man with a plan. The toddler told his parents he wanted to read 100 books in one day and that’s exactly what he did this past Saturday.
His father, Sylus Green, admitted to Chicago’s Channel 7 Eyewitness News that he tried to talk his son out of it, saying, “I was like, 100, son? That’s a lot of books. But Caleb adamant. “He was like, ‘No, I want to read 100.'”
So Caleb’s parents, Sylus and Rhoda Green, gathered enough books from their own shelves and their friends’ shelves to help their son reach his goal. Mom and Dad set aside this past Saturday to be “the day that Caleb reads 100 books in one day,” and to document the reading marathon, they streamed it on Facebook Live.
Before Caleb began, Sylus playfully massaged Caleb’s shoulders to get him ready for the “run,” saying, “All right, let’s do it!” followed by a high-five. Nine hours later, and with 4,000 viewers watching, Caleb not only fulfilled his goal, he brought friends and family together as well. In Sylus’ Facebook post, he wrote:
“This dude even had [our friends] in Florida checking in every few minutes to see what the count was. The most surprising thing is my best friend who is NEVER on Facebook even started a Facebook account so he could see him live from Jacksonville, FL. You KNOW the Dolphins and Bulldogs were tuned in as well!!!”
In the interview with Chicago’s ABC 7, Caleb said, “I like to read and I want to read some more like my sister.” And as for the future, he said, “I want to be a basketball player. When I am 22 I want to be an astronaut and when I’m 23 I want to be a Ninja turtle.”
In response to that, Sylus realized that he placed limits on himself and said his son has inspired him to reach higher: “I learned to just dream bigger and I am going to set unrealistic goals for myself this coming year and I’m going to be inspired by Caleb to not quit on him and just push through it.”
Well said! And congratulations to Caleb for accomplishing an amazing goal at just 4 years old!
