Simone Biles Spoke Her Interest In Being An NFL Cheerleader Into Existence, And Of Course, She Was Awesome
As the Bible says, there is power in the tongue. In Simone Biles’ case, in the tweet, too.
After being a guest at the Houston Texans football game two years ago, Biles took a picture alongside the team’s cheerleaders and tweeted out that “In my next life I’ll be an NFL cheerleader.”
Fast forward to December 10, 2017 and the 20-year-old four-time Olympic gold medalist was able to make her cheerleading dream come true early. She volunteered and was giddily invited to perform with the cheerleading squad as the home team played the San Francisco 49ers.
“I was so excited because I tweeted…and then they asked, and I was like, ‘Oh snap, it’s getting real,” she said before Sunday’s game according to the Houston Chronicle.
To prepare, she practiced with the team twice during the week and was gifted a pair of their signature red boots. Based on the fact that she’s quite the dancer and has been lauded and awarded for her floor routines during gymnastics competitions, she didn’t have a hard time keeping up. And it didn’t hurt that they’d also sent her practice videos and told her how to deal with the crowd. In the end, she did quite well:
And things couldn’t go sour if they tried with Biles’ boyfriend, Stacey Ervin, by her side for the whole thing:
The cheerleading experience comes as Biles has started training again in preparation for future competitions and Olympic runs down the line. Per the Houston Chronicle‘s report, a lot of her traveling and appearance commitments have made it tough to get back in the full swing of things, but she says training at home has proved to be quite beneficial. But based on the looks she’s serving in her uniform, it’s clear that she’s nowhere near out of shape.
“It’s going pretty well, obviously you still have rough days because you have to work on the consistency on being in the gym and I still have been traveling just a little bit,” she said. “I’ve dimmed down a lot so most of the time I’m at home training, which is really good.”
Can’t wait to see her back competing, but in the meantime, we’ll take watching her be a cheerleader like a pro for fun.
