Mary J. Blige has reigned as the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul for over 20 years and now she is receiving a well-deserved honor. The “Love Yourself” singer will be receiving the Icon Award at Billboard’s Women In Music Awards Ceremony.
“The Billboard Women in Music event was created to spotlight female trailblazers in the music industry,” Dana Miller, chief marketing officer of The Hollywood Reporter – Billboard Media Group, said in a statement. “Whether entertaining sold-out crowds or signing the next big artist, the women we celebrate are powerful leaders and pioneers, creating inspirational legacies and opening doors.”
The dinner and awards ceremony will be live streamed via Twitter on Nov. 30th from the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Los Angeles, CA from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. ET/ 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. PT.
Besides being a R&B legend, Blige is also quite the actress and her latest film, Mudbound, premiered in select movie theaters this weekend. Her performance in the film is described as “terrific” and “poignantly articulating the particular burden shouldered by black women.”
Mudbound is now available on Netflix.
