If you’ve ever had long hair, then you may have either had friends or family who encouraged you not to cut it, or been the one who was hesitant to even get a trim. Teyana Taylor can relate, because when she first stepped on the music scene as a teenager, she had a full head of hair that was her signature. It was a look that she, at the time, couldn’t imagine parting with. But years later, the now 26-year-old has embraced all sorts of styles, and it all started with finding the guts to chop her hair off. She also says that motherhood and maturity definitely helps.

In an interview with ELLE, the singer said she’s come to love her short pixie cut so much that she can’t see herself going back — and doesn’t plan to.

“I don’t ever want to grow my hair back,” she said. “It’s so crazy because at 16 with all the hair that I had, it was like, ‘no I don’t ever want to cut my hair’–it’s crazy how you change when you become a woman, not even just a mom. You start to grow up and you realize that it’s just hair.”

Taylor has a stylist in Cleveland, where husband Iman Shumpert plays for the Cavaliers, who specializes in short hair. The stylist (Edith from Bangs Salon) keeps the star’s hair razored up and chic (and short enough to wear underneath some colorful wigs).

“Every time I left her salon, it was like ‘I lost an inch,'” Taylor said. “Now she calls me Baldie because I won’t grow it back.”

Not only does Taylor love the look, but we do too. The style chameleon is giving serious us Halle Berry vibes with this flawless cut. Who needs hair when you can turn heads without?!
