Though a good swath of the country enjoyed some extended warm weather these last few months, it looks as if winter is really starting to set in. With that said, there is no doubt that your focus is now turning to where you can flee to escape the chilly temps. And while, sadly, many countries in the Caribbean that we would have normally suggested may not be viable options this year, there are plenty of other incredible locales that are worth a visit. Here are some of our must-visit destinations this winter.

OK, so not exactly a weekend getaway, but if you’ve got some days off to burn before the end of the year and you’re not against a long flight, then Hawaii could be exactly what the doctor ordered. With temperatures that don’t typically dip below 75 degrees, Hawaii is the perfect spot for those who want to escape the cold and enjoy some beach time. And for those who are looking for a little more adventure than just bumming around on the sand, Hawaii offers endless activities from snorkeling to horseback riding to incredible hiking. These activities will give you a great opportunity to burn off all the amazing food you’ll be chowing down on.

If you’re looking for just a small reprieve from the cold, then may we suggest a quick trip to Austin, Texas as a great way to go. You’re not exactly going to be rocking a bikini when you head to Austin during the winter, but the temperatures are definitely conducive to some fun outdoor activities. We suggest taking a tour of the area from the stunning Texas Hill Country to beautiful Lady Bird Lake. And, of course, make sure to put your eating pants on and grab some barbecue as well.

There are few cities that have the level of year-round sexy that Miami boasts. Whether going in the middle of summer or to escape the cold and snow, Miami is a great destination to hit the town and have some fun. And if you’re on the east coast, it’s the perfect spot for a quick weekend getaway: Leave on a Friday night, come back on a Sunday and you’ll definitely be able to squeeze in a solid amount of debauchery.

Turks and Caicos

Hurricane season may not have been kind to Turks and Caicos, but with the island slowly on the mend, this winter might not be a bad time to visit this stunning destination. With incredible food and beaches that will make your jaw drop, Turks and Caicos is a great escape for anyone who is looking to ditch the parkas and rock the sarongs. And keep in mind that tourism is huge to recovery efforts so fleeing the cold weather can actually have some benefits aside from giving you a shot at a nice winter tan.

Los Cabos

If hitting the clubs and making some bad decisions are right up your alley, might we suggest the always fun and never boring Los Cabos for your winter escape plan. While the nightlife is incredible, don’t spend your days hungover at the beach. There is plenty to see during the day in Los Cabos, from incredible whale watching opportunities to a burgeoning food scene.

Las Vegas

Whether it’s the middle of summer or the dead of winter, there is never a bad time to visit Las Vegas. While the tragic events of earlier this fall still haunt the city, there is no doubt that it remains one of our favorite destinations — an adult playground where we are guaranteed to have a great time. Whether you’re down for hitting the tables or catching a show is more your speed, Las Vegas has something for everyone and is a great destination for a winter trip with a fun group of friends.

The Colombian city of Cartagena might not be the most expected selection, but hear us out. There are a number of stunning cities in South America, but Cartagena offers up something for everyone. From funky art galleries to amazing food to a bustling nightlife scene, Cartagena is a multi-faceted, beautiful destination for anyone up to doing some international exploration for their winter getaway.

Rio de Janeiro

You don’t have to wait for Carnival 2018 for Rio de Janeiro to be a spot you should consider travelling to. Given that winter is the city’s off-season, you’ll be able to avoid some of the summertime crowds, while still savoring everything Rio has to offer. Check out the Christ the Redeemer statue, hit the town to get your drink on and head to the beach to see some very attractive Brazilian boys and girls.

Cape Town

This trip certainly isn’t a quick one, but trust us when we say it’s worth the journey. If you’re looking for a long vacation, might we suggest heading to Cape Town, South Africa. Those who head for a winter vacay in Cape Town are in for quite a treat: Beautiful beaches, stunning mountain views and fun wildlife (penguins!).
