Are you a club person?
Some people (ok, many people) love to loathe it for reasons that include the lack of space, the lines, the amount of sweat people expel in said space and the possibly wack DJs — among other things (Don’t get us started on the struggle to get a drink and the prices for them).
But Issa Rae’s disdain for the club scene is so strong that she has a backup list of reasons she uses to get out of going. The Insecure funny woman shared them as the first face of Vogue.com’s new video series, Sad Hot Girls, which, according to them, “investigates the mystifying, often seeming impossible world of intimacy and friendship.”
Rae, who models clothing that is her signature style of understated chic throughout the clip, gets to talk about her own friendships and how some of the interests of her friends are not her own. She shares a very funny tale about a particular friend who lives for the club and loves to be outside of the house. One night she tells her Rae that a certain spot will be “lit, poppin’…all of the terms” only for it to turn into a wet waste of the night where the star and her friends find themselves trapped in someone’s house watching The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air — and “not even the best episodes.”
It’s a pretty funny tale, told in Rae’s distinctive deadpan style of comedy. Check it out for yourself and find yet another reason to call her your spirit animal.
