(Chicago Sun Times) — Gov. Quinn on Tuesday put the brakes on a bid to reform the perk lawmakers have used to award free college tuition to the children of clout-heavy donors, lobbyists or relatives.
Saying the program should be scrapped altogether, Quinn vetoed legislation that banned lawmakers from giving legislative scholarships to students whose relatives had donated to the awarding lawmaker for a five-year period before and after getting the tuition waiver.
