(Washington Examiner) — A bill that would block a federal immigration enforcement program from being implemented in the District was introduced by Councilman Phil Mendelson on Tuesday and met with unanimous support from the rest of the D.C. Council.

Last November, city officials announced that the District would join Secure Communities, a national program that matches fingerprints of arrestees against a database of suspected illegal immigrants.
