(NYT) — By any measure, Representative Timothy H. Bishop, a Democrat from Long Island, should be seriously worried about his political survival as the election season unfolds.
Mr. Bishop comes from a swing district where anger at the national health care overhaul bill, which he supported, runs high, and where town-hall-style meetings have been filled with loud denunciations of government spending. The leading Republican challenger, a telegenic young businessman, has poured his own money into the campaign, has the support of the Conservative Party and in at least one poll was even with Mr. Bishop, a four-term incumbent.
