“I’m Melancholy, I Can’t Do Anything Right”: Willow Smith Drops Emotional New “Sugar & Spice” Track (Pass Or Play?)

Gone are the days where Willow Smith was a young girl who liked to wear funky clothes and sing about whipping hair and being a 21st century girl. Somewhere along the line (maybe it was the pressures of turning 12…?), baby girl left the dance tracks behind for more introspective songs that speak on why people do and don’t understand her, and the struggles of just being Willow. First was “I Am Me,” and now, that’s exactly what this new song, “Sugar & Spice” tries to do. Sampling Radiohead’s “Codex,” Willow goes for a more moody sound where she sings about the want for silence from “the monsters” under her bed, and probably those who always have something to say about who she is and how she lives her young life. Seeing as how critics question her mother’s parenting skills on the daily because she lives so freely, and because people talk crazy about her like they do adults, I can see why she would write material like this. And honestly, the song is not bad at all.

If you hadn’t figured it out by now, Willow can actually sing very well. She doesn’t have a heavy powerhouse voice, but the girl can hold a note better than some of the people calling themselves singers in the game right now. For future success in the industry though, I think she might just need better songs, ones that aren’t so cliche and doing their hardest to follow in the footsteps of “Whip Your Hair” success. And while I hope her future tracks aren’t this emotional (I mean dang, she IS just 12, and if she thinks ish is hard now, she hasn’t seen anything until she becomes a full blown teenager), “Sugar and Spice” is actually good to me. In fact, I’ve played it multiple times today just because. But give the song a chance and let us know what you think below.

Notes From The Heart: Willow Smith Pens A Letter To Tupac!

"WillowLetter"

The jokes just write themselves sometimes.

Now, I’m not sure what prompted this but, Willow Smith Instagrammed (for those who don’t know, that’s a picture app for Droid and iPhone users) a letter she wrote to Tupac “years ago,” as she put it.  Willow is only 11 years old now so I’m not really sure how old this letter actually is.  Anyway, she writes:

“Dear Tupac,

I know you are alive some place. I think that my mommy really misses you. Can you please come back? Can you come back so Mommy and me can be happy1 I wish you were here…I really do! Love, Willow”

Hmmm.  When they’re younger, children don’t really seem to have a filter so either Willow was just saying what she’d heard Jada say or she was able to pick up on her mom’s feelings from an early age. I’m not trying to start any trouble but think about it: what would make her say that her mom misses him?  There were always rumors that Tupac and Jada were more than just friends and she’s always spoken very highly of him so who knows.

You think Will feels any kind of way about that or was it probably just something fun and cute to do?  For her part, Jada also Instagrammed a picture of a letter Tupac sent her while he was in jail.  I guess Mommy and daughter were having a “We Miss Pac” day. I guess.

I Whip My… Oh, Wait: Willow Smith Shaves Her Head

Well… she said no matter if it’s long or short. In a recent move, Willow Smith decided to shave most of her hair off. Jada has said that she’s fine with Willow experimenting with her hair because at the end of the day, it’s really not a big deal.

I have to admit, I think it’s kind of cute. The child has a cute face so she really can’t go wrong. And honestly, as much money as she and her parents have, I’m sure she can afford some good fake hair to cover it up, if she ever regrets her decision.

Check out some more pictures below.

What do you think of Willow’s new hair cut? Would you be “cool enough” to let your daughter shave her head at such a young age?

Willow Smith is set to drop her second single, “Fireball,” on 106 & Park tomorrow, but we’ve got a sneak peak of the trailer for the new song featuring Nicki Minaj. The energy for the video, filmed in LA, is pretty crazy–no doubt a testament to the hot collabo between two very animated female artists.

Check out the video and tell us if your feeling it. Do you think this song can top the success of “Whip My Hair?”

Willow Smith’s ‘Whip My Hair’ Song Inspires Women!

Willow Smith’s new song has whipped the blogosphere into a frenzy.  I bet when you first heard “Whip My Hair” you said something to the effect of  “This song is so cute! I like it!”  Then reality sank in a bit and you got to thinking about how little Willow is only nine years old and she regularly turns out red carpets, has poise beyond her years and is now stepping boldly into a promising new career.  Yes she has the advantage of having parents with multi-million dollar bank accounts, but still–she’s nine years old pursuing a money-making passion. You’re…well, not nine years old and you’re pushing paper in a cubicle to fend off student loan debt worth tens of thousands of dollars. Hmph.
