Our gorgeous skin (which comes in every shade from sleek ebony to creamy porcelain) is a beauty to behold, but it may also be preventing us from  synthesizing an adequate amount of vitamin D from the sun.  Research unveiled at the recently held Conference on the Science of Cancer Health Disparities, showed that black women were much more likely than white women to have vitamin D deficiency. The study analyzed blood samples from black and white women who had breast cancer.

The researchers in the study say these findings could help with creating better cancer prevention methods. If you’re concerned about your vitamin D intake, health professionals suggest consuming vitamin D rich foods like eggs and liver. Fish oil is another good one. If none of that sounds appealing, try a vitamin supplement.  And please don’t stop wearing sun screen. Too much sun is no good either.

How do you ensure that you are getting the right amount of nutrients everyday?
